troublemaker “Deutsche Bahn”
We have just spent a week of traveling through north Germany, Denmark and Sweden by train. The „Deutsche Bahn“ (national railway company of Germany) is extremely well known to never be on time. No matter who we told about our travel plans, they were mostly surprised and advised us against traveling with it.
Against all their opinions, we still packed our stuff and gave it a try. We’re convinced that the „if you never try-attitude“ will help us in all different aspects of life.
And so we experienced what everyone had predicted. On our first day we waited for 50 minutes, second day almost an hour.
Instead of being annoyed we had to laugh at ourselves. Our optimism really made us think that even if everyone out there struggles with the german trains, we won’t have any problems. We were convinced that we’ll be fine. Which is still true. A bit of waiting never hurt anyone. ;)
We had to wait, but as we saw it coming we just accepted it. Apparently the german train system is completely outdated. They have faced endless delays in the past years and the whole infrastructure needs to be renovated at some stage. The swiss train system however counts to the best developed and most punctual systems worldwide. (statista.com)
Our conclusion of this trip is to appreciate this even more than before. Waiting for a train for 5 minutes doesn’t count as being delayed.
So if you’re ever out here traveling through Germany, be prepared for delays and never expect a german train to be on time…
