facing mountain fog and sunrays
Wherever we look fog climbs up the mountains and hides the trees. We start our hike surrounded by typical swiss environment. The trail is visible through the forest, unlike the summit. Each step takes away some of the fallow path. The hours pass unnoticed as we are busy sharing thoughts and enjoying the silence.
Cowbells ring us back to reality. We storm the peak.
The aim of this trip is not to face the ultimate challenge. Neither to beat any records or climb the summit in a certain time. There’s a different approach this time. It is our personal "closing trip" before opening a new chapter in life.
An unknown stage in life far on the other side of the world. Down Under.
Before we leave to Australia we take a weekend off. Two days in the mountains with our parents and our brother, just as we used to when being younger.
Family-occacions have become a bare rarity during the past few years. Everyone lives a busy life. Days fullpacked with work, responsibilites and duties. Spending time as a family carries a different meaning once it’s no longer part of the daily routine.
During the last four years we outgrew childhood and became young adults. Demanding but pioneering. We found our places in worklife, graduated our apprenticeship and strived after becoming better athletes. A creeping process decreasing family time secretly.
Like reaching the summit after a hike, we have now reached the end of an era. From now on we head into another direction. We quit work and leave our hometown for the upcoming 8 months.
Our gap year in Australia is not a "self-discovery-trip". The intension is clear. Putting all we have into developping as triathletes, expanding our horizon and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Taking the journey as the destination, not elsewise only.
