big city life
You can take a Queenslander out of his state but never Queensland out of him. He loves everything about home. The beaches at the northern east coast are without any doubt the most beautiful existing.
You won’t find good coffee outside the state’s barriers. The sun shines the brightest at sunny coast, people have the coolest vibe and all in all, life is lived better than anywhere else. Once you tell a Queenslander that you are about to leave this magic spot, you'll receive confused looks and instant incomprehension.
Exactly what happened to us, as we were heading south to Sydney and later on to Melbourne. Against all advice, we sticked to our plan and therefore soon found ourselves in a chaotic, busy and loud tumult of Sydneysiders.
After weeks, spent in a place of lonely beaches and a surrounding of just a bunch of athletes and coaches, the hustle and bustle hits different.
As much as we love small towns, the big city and its vivid spirit catches us instantly. Cities with millions of unkown fellow human beings, following their own path, inspire us. Out on the countryside everyone knows each other, whereas you can enjoy anonymity in the overcrowded streets of a world metropolises.
A breeze blows through our hair and makes us shiver slightly. The goosebumps on our skin do not originate from the temperature only. They also come from the glimpse we get on the majestic harbour bridge.
The famous arch bridge, that connects Sydney's central business district to Sydney’s north shore, rises to the sky right in front of us.
As the ferry we sit on glides underneath it, a breathtaking view on the opera house and the city’s skyline is revealed. Whilst others dream of traveling the world for their entire life, we get to sit here on a casual Tuesday evening. We feel truly privileged, to experience all of this with only 19 years of age.
During a few days off training, we get to feel the sand of the world famous Bondi beach between our toes, look out over the endless valleys of the Blue-Mountain-National park and swim in the “Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre”. The place, that welcomed the worlds swimming elite 23 years ago and still holds the olympic spirit in its pool.
With recharged batteries and lifelong lasting memories, we leave the harbour city behind us. Before heading back to the chilled vibe in Queensland in January, we stay in Victoria for a while now. Melbourne and two competitions await us!
A new city, new people and new chances to grow.
